Radiation protection has two layers and both are mandatory. One is the room — walls, doors, windows and barriers, whose parameters follow from the calculation in the investment design. The other is the staff working inside the radiation field during interventional procedures and close to the patient.
ERGIN Ltd. covers both: we prepare the technology and radiation protection parts of the design and supply the equipment the shielding calls for — so the calculation and what gets installed do not drift apart.
Personal protective equipment
Worn by staff during procedures where leaving the room or standing behind a barrier is not possible.
- Radiation protection aprons — front and wrap-around, in various lead equivalences
- Thyroid collars
- Radiation protection eyewear
- Gloves and gonad shields
- Stands and hangers for storage — an apron left folded cracks and loses its protective properties
Room shielding
Built to the approved design and subject to verification before the facility is commissioned.
- Lead doors for X-ray rooms
- Lead glass for observation windows
- Mobile barriers and protective panels
- Lead sheet and wall lining materials
How lead equivalence is determined
The lead equivalence of each element is calculated, not guessed. The radiation protection section of the investment design takes in the type and parameters of the equipment, the expected workload, the distances and the use of adjacent rooms. From that follow the requirements for walls, doors, windows and barriers. The design is assessed by the competent authority, and after construction the shielding properties of the barriers are verified by dosimetric measurement.
